Stop the FCC from Handing MoveOn.org and the Liberals a Huge Victory!!!

Would it surprise you to know that MoveOn.org, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Barack Obama, Arianna Huffington and many of the most liberal voices in the Democratic Party share a common belief that government—not the free market—should regulate growth and innovation regarding the Internet and wireless communications? Of course not!

What SHOULD surprise you is that the Republican Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) agrees with them. That’s right, the REPUBLICAN Chairman of the FCC agrees with the Far Left Liberals!

Yesterday, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin announced that he wants the government to decide the winners and losers regarding advanced communications services by supporting regulation of wireless technology under the guise of “open access.” What a bunch of baloney!

Like the government lingo term “campaign finance reform,” “open access” does not mean what you might think. In this case, “open access” means heavy handed government regulation and limited—very limited—competition.

And when free market competition is limited, who loses? You do!

Despite receiving appeals from prominent Republicans in the House and Senate as well as conservative leaders from across America, Chairman Martin has decided that the liberal wing of the Democratic Party knows better.

The issue involves the government auction of radio spectrum which will raise billions of dollars for the U.S. Treasury. Not billions of tax dollars, but dollars that come from a competitive market place where companies can purchase spectrum for their wireless services.

But Chairman Martin thinks that this auction should be conducted in a way that short changes taxpayers and consumers alike, and encourages unnecessary and unwise regulation in the vibrantly competitive wireless marketplace.

Chairman Martin’s plan is designed solely to narrow the range of prospective bidders and reduce the cost of the spectrum, robbing the Treasury of dollars that have been reserved for, among other things, deficit reduction and public safety!

Chairman Martin and the two other Republican Commissioners Robert McDowell and Deborah Tate need to hear from you TODAY!! Tell them that this auction MUST be conducted in a pro-taxpayer, pro-consumer, pro-market and pro-competitive manner without interference or encumbrances.

These FCC Commissioners must be told loud and clear to reject efforts by the most liberal factions of the Democratic Party to diminish the value of the spectrum in order to advance a narrow, politically driven agenda that rewards the few while punishing the American taxpayers.

You can reach Chairman Kevin Martin at 202-418-1000, Commissioner Robert McDowell at 202-418-2200, and Commissioner Deborah Tate by calling 202-418-2500. Or you can leave them a message on the main switchboard at 888-225-5322.

If you think Chairman Martin is wrong, you need to call and tell him that his idea of “open access” is an anti-free market sham designed to benefit only a few spectrum bidders, and tell the other Commissioners that they should NOT support Chairman Martin’s efforts.

Most important, call TODAY!
FCC Chairman Kevin Martin: 202-418-1000
FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell: 202-418-2200
FCC Commissioner Deborah Tate: 202-418-2500
Or call the FCC’s main switchboard: 888-225-5322.

For all you do to support free market conservative principles, we at The American Conservative Union are most appreciative.

Sincerely,

J. William Lauderback
Executive Vice President
